So many of us say our time zone is EST all year. It’s not. We’re in EST autumn-spring and EDT spring-autumn. As of writing this post, it’s 7:35 PM/19:35. The current time in EST is 6:35 PM/18:35. If we said ET (Eastern Time) it would be unclear because there’s multiple time zones there in the summer. But saying we’re in EST isn’t just misleading, it’s completely wrong. But for some reason so many of us are in the habit of doing so

I would assume you mean all the stuff they still own from colonial days?

And it’s true that Russia has a lot of time zones but at least they stay the same all year Not like the US where you’re in one timezone half the year and one the other half unless you’re in Hawaii and Arizona but excluding the parts of Arizona that are territory of the Navajo nation. If you live in Vladivostok, you’re GMT+10 all year. The name of the timezone never changes for you. Whereas when it comes to my grandparents in Germany, we both have daylight savings, but the clocks change on different days. So with them in 2024 we’re 6 hours apart Jan 1-March 10, 5 hours apart March 10-March 31, 6 hours apart again on March 31-October 27, 7 hours apart October 27-November 3rd, and back to 6 hours apart Nov 3rd-Dec 31. Tell me that isn’t too much tomfoolery
