Like the case of Herostratus. Herostratus is a figure who is not known very well. What is known is that in 356 BCE, Herostratus, burned down the Temple of Artemis, located in Ephesus, Turkey. The reason he gave was that he wanted to be famous, and he thought that burning down the temple would give him that fame. He was killed, and in an attempt to erase his name, it became forbidden for it to be mentioned or written down.
