They would be confusing the constitution with the Declaration of Independence (which Jefferson did write). But what’s interesting is that not only did Thomas Jefferson not write the Constitution, but he also didn’t sign it. At the time of the signing he was the US Minister to France, and therefore could not be physically present. Another prominent person who wasn’t present was John Adams, who was the US Minister to Great Britain.
