ik in the original Rookie Project, you had to do a mag interview, but I decided to switch things up a bit.
Before the interview, Wendy jams out to “Supernova” by Aespa, a labelmate of Red Velvet’s. When the song finishes, the Youngstreet jingle plays, signaling her cue to sart talking. She adjusts the mic on her headset before she starts.
“This is DJ WanD, and you’re listening to Youngstreet,” she begins. “That was ‘Supernova’ by Aespa. They’re lovely ladies if you ever get the chance to meet them. Anyway, next, we have a very special guest joining us – Bright Crown’s newly debuted boy group, Sonic Boom! But first, here’s their debut title track, ‘Bada-Boom!’”
Wendy puts down her headset just in time for there to be a knock on the door.
“Wendy, they’re here!” her boss says very excitedly. “Sonic Boom are right outside the studio – they just pulled up!”
Wendy and Ji-Yeon engage in a brief fangirling moment before Ji-Yeon goes to the front entrance to let the guys in.
“Do I look good?” Woojin asks on the limo ride to SBS Power FM’s studio in Seoul. “Is my hair good?”
“Dude!” Seongmin scolds him, whacking his friend upside the head. “You look fine! It’s a radio interview – nobody will even see you!”
“Actually,” Cam says, “yes, they will. I heard Youngstreet is usually posted to YouTube after it airs. But you still look great.”
“I just want to look good for Wendy! She’s my idol, you know?”
“Look, Woo,” Dylan says. “I’m nervous as well – hell, we all are – but you need to calm down! You know dating is taboo in K-pop.”
Woojin sighs. “I know,” he says sadly.
“We’re here, guys!” the driver announces in Korean. “Enjoy your interview!”
After receiving some words of encouragement from Seongmin, the ten members get out of the limo one by one and walk towards the entrance, where a woman is waiting for them.
“Hey, Sonic Boom!” she greets them with a polite bow. “Come on in; Wendy can’t wait to meet you.”
Seongmin knocks on Wendy’s door when they reach it, and they’re granted entry. Thus begins the interview.
Wendy: Oh, my Lord, it’s you! Welcome to Youngstreet; you can sit anywhere you’d like.
Everyone sits down except for Woojin, who is still flirting with Wendy. He gives her the corniest Korean pickup line he can think of.
“Sorry, but dating is taboo in K-pop,” Wendy says, gesturing for him to sit with his members. “Nice try, though.”
Woojin snaps his fingers in defeat and sits down between Seth and Hoshi.
Wendy: So, let’s start with some intros! I want each of you to go around and say your name. Let’s start on the left… go!
Dylan: Hey, y’all – I’m Dylan! *winks*
Double D: Annyeong! I’m Double D, just like in the cartoon.
Wendy: Ah, “Ed, Edd, & Eddy”! I loved that show as a kid. Go ahead, whoever’s next.
Hoshi: Hey, I’m Hoshi – not to be confused with Kwon Soon-Young.
Woojin: Hi, Wendy! I’m Woojin. I’ve loved you ever since you debuted with Red Velvet. Oh, my God, I still can’t believe-
Seth: *smacks Woojin’s face to get his attention* Woo, now is not the time!
Woojin: *in a whisper* Sorry.
Seth: Anyway, I’m Seth!
Kai: Nihau! I’m Kai.
Cam: Hello! My name is Cam, as in the camcorder.
Leebo: Wassup? It’s ya boy Leebo!
Chichi: Hey, my name is Chirapol, but you can call me Chichi!
Seongmin: and I’m Seongmin!
Wendy: Nice to meet you all! Seongmin, can you tell me a little bit about your debut single?
Seongmin: “Bada-Boom” has a similar vibe to “Dynamite” by BTS.
Wendy: Oh, I love that song! How are they similar?
Dylan: Well, “Dynamite” is about loving life, and so is “Bada-Boom”, pretty much. But our song leans more towards freedom to do whatever it is you’re dreaming of.
Leebo: We were going for something fun and catchy when we recorded it.
Wendy: Wow! I could definitely hear that on my first listen. Is BTS one of your favorite artists?
Seth: Yeah, actually! They’re the reason I started dancing, because I saw the dance practice for “No More Dream”.
Wendy: Who else do you listen to, guys?
Dylan: I listen to a lot of country music, and I think I may or may not be turning Double D onto it. *Dylan nudges Double D* Right?
*Double D clutches his head in embarrassment, Dylan laughs*
Dylan: He’s still getting used to it.
Double D: I am NOT!
Dylan: Then how come I caught you listening to old-school Taylor? Huh???
*Double D nudges Dylan playfully*
Double D: Wendy, my favorite artist is actually Pentagon. I used to be a Cube trainee so I could be on the same label as my favorite group, but then Bright Crown came and recruited me into this group. I wouldn’t change it for the world, though… except maybe Dylan.
*Double D gives Dylan the evil eye, but they both break out into laughter*
Wendy: So, let’s move on. Do you have any dream collabs?
Double D: Pentagon!
Leebo: They’re done, bro… sorry. I’m thinking Stray Kids.
Cam: &Team. Definitely &Team.
Hoshi: Seventeen! I’m actually besties with Hoshi.
*Wendy laughs*
Wendy: Oh, really? Hoshi and Hoshi – I love it! What about you, Kai?
Kai: Stray Kids.
Wendy: So, we have two for Stray Kids! They’re a great group indeed!
Woojin *lost in Wendy’s eyes*: I like Red Velvet.

Seongmin: My accent. I was born in Daegu, home of probably the best dialect out there!
Dylan: Well, I think the southern US dialect is pretty awesome, too, if I do say so myself. I say my charm point is my looks and accent.
Seth: That I can make snake sounds. I can even flick my tongue like a snake. Watch me!
*Seth flicks his tongue and makes a hissing sound like a snake*
Wendy: Impressive! You know, I wondered if that was the case when I followed your Instagram page. I followed all ten of you, honestly, when I heard you were guesting on my show. Anyone else?
Woojin: My smile.
Kai: Me too!
Leebo: My “bad boy” reputation. I’m not bad, like criminally bad, but it’s the way I look, you know what I mean?
Wendy: I do! So, Dylan, I heard you originally wanted to sing country. Is that true?
Dylan: Yeah! I was about to move to Nashville, actually, before Bright Crown reached out to me. I was out busking one day, just minding my own business, and then the rest is history!
Wendy: What about the rest of you?
Leebo: Taekwondo instructor.
Woojin: I don’t know, maybe a relationship counselor.
Double D: Cartoonist.
Cam: Mechanic for sure!
Chichi: A chef at a Thai restaurant.
Hoshi: Bartender.
Wendy: Quite a variety there! So, let’s talk more about your music… specifically your first stage last night. How did you like it?
Seongmin: It was tiring because we’d spent all morning and afternoon rehearsing nonstop.
Dylan: But totally worth it… right?
Seongmin: Totally, because we got a chance to perform in front of all of our Supersonics for the first time. Hearing them do the fan chant was just magical!
Wendy: And last question – what are your goals as an idol group?
Chichi: To make music that we love and that we know our fans will love. We would also love to get the global fame that BTS has.
Wendy: Excellent! Do you have any final thoughts for our listeners?
Seongmin: Stan Sonic Boom, stream Bada-Boom, and anticipate our comeback! You’ll be so happy you did.
