This belongs to a series of informative threads about SW. If you haven't seen the previous ones, here they are: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.
In my last thread I talked about The Jedi, The Sith and their combat styles. Since this is a big part of the SW fan culture I want to take a deeper look into lightsabers and battles. However, since this threads are meant to simplify things for newbies, I won't get too deep into fighting styles but I'll leave a video down below if you want to get more info about that topic.
Let start with the most important question, What's a lightsaber?
A lightsaber is basically a sword made of plasma, created by The Jedi using a Kyber crystal as source of power. The crystals are able to react to the force within one individual and once it's inside the hilt, it emits colored plasma that reflects the personality of the owner. In the case of the Sith, their crystals are turned red by bleeding them. This means that a sith must infuse the crystal with dark emotions to turn it red.
Just like the color of the crystal reflects the atributes of the lightsaber owner, the hilt is also an important part as it reflects the preferences of the user. Most users create their own hilt to suit their fighting style.
Now that I've explained what it's lightsaber let's talk about the best duelists among Sith and Jedi. Of course this is my personal opinion but you can drop your favorite in the comments.
For the Jedi; Obi Wan Kenobi and Master Windu are probably the most talented duelists after Yoda. The first one, was defeated once in the movies as far as I know (vs Dooku). It won against Darth Maul, General Grievous and Anakin Skywalker.
On the other hand, Master Windu is famous for his knowledge of the 7th lightersaber fighting style, which is regarded as the most difficult and intense, so much that it's the closest to the style of the Sith. This may explain why he was the only character capable of standing his ground against Darth Sidious and disarm him.
For the Sith; Dooku (Darth Tyrannus) and his apprentice Asajj Ventress. Dooku is probably one of the finest duelist among both Jedi and Sith, since he learned the best moves from Master Yoda himself but once turned to the dark side of the force, he adjusted his fighting style to one more suitable of a Lord of the Sith.
Curiously, his apprentice Asajj Ventress was also introduced to lightsaber combats while being a padawan before turning to the dark side as well. Something interesting about Master and apprentice it's that they used a very similar type of lightsaber (with a curved hilt) but Ventress' was a little bit more stylized and could be combined with other to form a double bladed lightsaber, just like her relative Darth Maul.
Thank you very much for making it this far, I hope you have enjoyed it.
