When people treat autistics like theyre simple minded and incapable of complex thought, which is what is implied when you call us innocent by the way
Adding on to that, acting like autistic people cannot make small foul jokes that theyre comfortable with because of the stupid "innocent autistic" stereotype shit
Talking down to autistic people to make yourself seem smarter but not actually assisting us when we need it. I'm not gonna say that as an autistic kid I've never needed assistance in daily tasks but people just think they're being helpful at times when I did not ask for help but scoff and tell me to figure it out when I need actual help. *If you're ableist, don't put up a front for brownie points but refuse to actually help disabled people when needed*
When people don't understand that I genuinely have gradually worsening hearing loss and refuse to talk loud in a space where there's a lot of noise pollution. Even if you don't like screaming, whispering it right up by the front of my outer ear cartilage would do me justice
When people call me "old lady" jokingly because I rise back up very slowly whenever I've been seated for some time and walk a little bit slowly unless I really need to get from a point a to point b. I get that some do it because I've made it apparent that dark humor doesn't trigger me but it's just that I don't like how modern society perpetuates complex physical disability as only something the elderly can have and that anyone younger than 70 with an autoimmune or chronic pain condition is faking to try and imitate their grandmothers
When people think me mentioning my disability is me insulting myself(?)
This one takes me the most by surprise because I can't fathom how one gets to that conclusion. Like when I say I'm autistic or dyspraxic you say nothing specific and nod back, you don't say "no sweetie don't say that about yourself you're the smartest person I know". Those things arent opposite though. I am smart, Im also autistic
When people feel comfortable making ableist jokes around me because I don't visibly appear disabled at first glance
When I bring up that me also being disabled makes me uncomfortable with those jokes they get mad and tell me "you don't need to get offended I didn't mean people like you, i meant them" I don't think that makes it any better

that's me, too. I'm not autistic, but the moment people hear I've got develpmental delays as part of my disability, they assume that I'm mentally challenged, too (the only mental issues I have are depression and anxiety). My caregiver was on the phone with her mom once while I was with her, and when her mom realized I was there, she was like "Oh, I didn't know Chiara was in the car! Hi, Chiara!" sounds normal, right? NO! She said it like I was a literal baby. I fucking hate that! Course, I didn't say anything bc I'm too nice for that and couldn't think of a nice way to correct her, but I so wanted to tell her off. UGH!!!
