There's a possibly apocryphal explanation from James Cameron, creator of Terminator-Skynet (either consciously or subconsciously) created time travel out of guilt for nearly exterminating humanity(unsure when he came up with this explanation, after Terminator 1,2,6 or after/in between) and sent Kyle Reese back in time to protect Sarah Conner and beget John Conner.

So there's slight hope of AI regretting its evil/actions and reversing it through time travel(unfortunately the ever evolving AI that hasn't nearly destroyed humanity will still be evil first so at the start we have to suffer thru autocorrect/evil AI).
