the fate of ophelia - the best song on the album and her best single since cardigan. well-produced and incredibly catchy!! it has potential to become one of her biggest hits which i'm really hoping for as it might lead her to making more music like this and less like... the rest of the album. this song got me looking like boo boo the fool because i thought the entire thing was going in this direction musical-wise. 10/10 for me!
elizabeth taylor - rep vibes! as someone who got into her music in 2017, this dark pop sound feels like what i personally associate with taylor and also what i imagine the rep vault tracks to sound like. solid production, her voice sounds great in it and there's no corny lines - 9/10 easily
opalite - the verses were great and i was hoping they would lead into something much more intersting. the chorus is giving a sped up version of thompson twins' hold me now and it's a rare case of an 80s song i dislike so obviously this one is not my thing either. too bad because there was really a lot of potential in the verses which unfortunately led to a milquetoast chorus making it a 5/10 song
father figure - i love george michael's music more than life itself so you can imagine how excited i was to find out she's going to sample father figure on this track... only for the sample to be a "blink and you'll miss it" kind of one. i hope it inspires gen z swifties to look up the original song and get into his music but with a song like this i wouldn't be inspired to do so. 4/10 i guess??
eldest daughter - those lyrics combined with this ballad-like melody made me laugh out loud. i'm so glad it's a boring 2/10 song because even as someone who usually doesn't care about lyrics, i physically couldn't listen to a song that says "but i'm not a bad bitch and this wasn't savage" in the year 2025.
ruin the friendship - cute but not memorable. something you hear in a lidl while buying orange juice or something. 3/10
actually romantic - the intro reminds me of something else, i'll have to look that one up. the lyrics are wild??? apparently they're about charli xcx for some reason but thankfully i'm not that devoted to a fandom that them having beef would make me stop from enjoying any of their music like i do. but if i were going to write a song like this i'd keep charli out of my mouth because any song on brat is better than this one 😭 3/10
wish list - false god temu version. also why is real madrid in it?
wood - once again i've definitely heard that intro somewhere but idk where. once again, cute but forgettable! 4/10
cancelled - the production is great! once again, rep vibes which i love. i'm praying she wrote the song about the smear campaign towards blake lively and not about the right wingers she keeps hanging with because those maga lunatics do not deserve a song this good. finally a 7/10 for me
honey - rhyming "want" with "want" is a bit jarring ngl, otherwise it's a 3rd case of a cute but forgettable song - with this one being the worst because referring to a woman as a b*tch gave me the ick. 3/10
life of a showgirl - seeing the sabrina feature had me hoping for some man's best friend and that says a lot given that i wasn't a fan of that album either, but this song is so bland that it makes MBF sound like a never ending banger in comparison. a 4/10 for me.

the entire album is a 4.5/10 for me unfortunately, which is sad and disappointing because the visuals had me thinking this could be one for the ages. multiple songs fall flat (not in the "they all sound the same" kind of way, just that there's nothing which makes them stand out - they sound so generic that literally anyone could have made them). 1989 stays unmatched when it comes to her pop albums. i was expecting myself to play this album on repeat for the rest of the day but if this is what it sounds like, i guess i'll just go back to listening to my beloved 40 year old songs like on any day ending with a Y.

it is! and i'm glad because i don't think i could sit through another "woe is me" kind of album. TTPD would never have a song like the fate of ophelia on it and that song is enough for me to prefer showgirl over it
