There’s many differences. Both are Slavic languages and share some aspects (such as having a similar, but not identical, alphabet and having some vocabulary be the same or similar) but there are a lot of differences too with vocab and grammar and whatnot. If I was listening to someone speaking Ukranian there’s no guarantee I’d be able to follow at all (granted my Russian isn’t like a native but that’s only one factor) because of how many differences there are with the languages.

Russian has no pure J sound, only the zjh sound (though that letter is usually transliterated as just zh, but I think for English speakers zjh may be easier to understand the sound)
