“He Looks So Perfect”
as you can probably tell just by reading the first chapter, it's pretty...
I'd posted it on the 1D forums (they allowed other artist fanfics, just like here), and everybody who commented had loved it? well, in hindsight, they were probably just saying that to boost my ego and make me want to write more. lol
Chapter 1
“Bye, Sarah! Have fun in Australia!” I said to my sister as I hugged her. She was leaving our little town of Marysville, Washington, for a foreign exchange program. That means we get an Australian exchange student! Oh, how I LOVE their accents!
“I will, Cara!” Sarah said, hugging me back. I watched her get on the plane and left with my parents. We’d be getting our exchange student tomorrow.
~~~~~
Sydney, Sarah’s POV
By the time I arrived in Sydney, I was extremely jetlagged. I walked off the plane with my bookbag and looked for a sign with my name on it. I found one being held by a middle-aged woman with blond hair, who had her husband with her. The man had balding brown hair and a gray mustache.
“Hello, are you Sarah?” the woman asked.
“Yeah, Sarah Wray. What’s your name?”
“I’m Karen Clifford, and this is my husband Daryl. Nice to meet you.”
“You too.”
“You look tired,” Daryl said.
“Yeah, I flew all the way from Marysville, Washington.”
“Wow! So, that’s like what? Fourteen, fifteen hours?”
“Something like that.”
~~~~~
Marysville, Cara’s POV
The next day, we picked up our exchange student at the airport.
The kid who approached us was a guy, and he was hot! The tips of his blonde hair covered one of his blue eyes.
“Hi, you must be Michael,” Mom said.
“Yes, I am,” the guy said. “Michael G. Clifford.”
“I’m Linda Wray, and these are my husband Chris and our daughter Cara.”
“What’s the G stand for?” I asked.
“G-string.” Michael laughed. “I’m just kidding, but I still won’t say it.”
I giggled. “You’re funny!”
“Why, thank you, love. So, are there any Macca’s around here? I’m starving!”
“Huh?”
“Oh, you know…Big Macs?”
“Oh, McDonald’s! Of course we do! I’m hungry, too. Let’s go!”
~~~~~
“So, tell me about yourself, Michael,” Daddy said as we ate. Michael had ordered a cheeseburger meal with no pickles or onions, a Coke, and a side of McBites. The rest of us had ordered quarter pounders with cheese.
“I’m from Sydney, Australia,” Michael said.
I giggled. “Say ‘Australia’ again. I like how you say that.”
“Australia,” he said with an amazing smile. “Anyways, I’m also English, Irish, Scottish, and German.”
“Ooh, say something in German!”
“Sprechen Sie Deutsch?”
I giggled again. “You’re gonna be popular at my school, I just know it! Tell me something else.”
“Okay. I’m in a band called 5 Seconds of Summer. We’re just a little YouTube band, but we’re looking for a record deal.”
“Sweet! Now, something about me. I’m a twin. You’re actually switching places with my sister Sarah. We look exactly alike.”
“That’s cool.”
Chapter 2
Sydney, Sarah’s POV
On Monday, Karen took me to school, and I nervously entered the building that was twice the size of my regular school. My first stop was the principal’s office to get my schedule. I knocked on the door, and the principal motioned for us to come in.
“Hi, I’m Sarah Wray,” I said once I was in the room. “I’m an exchange student from America.”
“Ah, Sarah Wray. Nice to meet you; I’m Mr. Madden. Let me find your schedule.” Mr. Madden quickly found my schedule and handed it to me. “Have a good first day, mate.”
I went to my first classroom, and as soon as I got there, I was relieved to find a familiar face.
“Ellie!” I said. “I didn’t know you were in the foreign exchange program!”
“I am!” Ellie said. “Oh, and this is Calum.” She gestured towards the guy sitting next to her, who had black hair and looked Asian. “Calum, this is one of my friends Sarah!”
“Hello, there, love,” Calum said in a Scottish accent. “You’re fit.”
I giggled, not sure if this was a compliment. “Thanks…I think. Where are you from, Scotland?”
“No. My mum’s Kiwi and my dad’s Scottish, so I’m only half Scottish. Oh, there’s my mate Luke. He’s also the maths teacher’s son. Aye, Luke!”
Calum waved a guy over who had blond hair and adorable blue eyes.
“Hello,” Luke said to me. “What’s your name?”
“Sarah,” I said.
“Well, you look like a Sarah, and the name Sarah means ‘princess’.”
“Aw, that’s sweet! I’ll tell my twin sister you said that. Luke, right?”
“That’s me!” Luke sat next to me, and the teacher started the lesson.
Marysville, Cara’s POV
On Monday morning, I woke up at about 5 am for school. School starts at seven, so I have to get up early. I got up and dressed and went to the guest room to wake Michael up. He was sleeping soundly with his right arm over the edge of the bed.
“Hey, Mike. Time to get up!” I said.
Michael opened his eyes and looked at his watch. “Cara, it’s only five fifteen in the morning,” he complained.
“Well, school starts at seven, so come on!” I turned the light on and left the room to get breakfast.
Michael finally came downstairs 45 minutes later. “Good morning, Michael,” Mom said. “Are you ready for your first day?”
“Yes, I am, Mrs. Wray,” Michael said.
“Perfect! Hurry up, or you’ll miss the bus!”
Michael and I ate breakfast and took the bus to school. After getting his schedule from the principal, we went over it together.
“We have all the same classes!”
“Crikey! Really?”
I giggled. “You sound like Steve Irwin when you say that. And yeah, really. I’ll show you around!”
I showed him to our first class, which was biology with Mrs. Sanchez. She was working at her desk. She smiled when she saw her new student. “Hello,” she said to Michael. “What’s your name?”
“Michael Clifford,” he said.
“Nice to meet you. You may sit wherever you like.”
We both sat at my table together. The table was usually occupied by me and my abusive boyfriend Blake Cartwright.
Just then, Blake came in and fumed when he saw Michael in his seat. “Hey! Move it, punk!” he said to Michael. “That’s my lab partner!”
“Not anymore,” Michael said, which made Blake even more irate.
“Mrs. Sanchez, you didn’t tell me I was getting a new lab partner! Now I’m gonna have to find someone else!” Blake whined to the teacher.
“Yes, I did, Mr. Cartwright. You just have the attention span of a fish!” Mrs. Sanchez said. “Go sit next to Ashley Miller.”
Blake rolled his eyes and sat next to Ashley.
Chapter 3
At lunch, I called Sarah to tell her about Michael. She answered groggily on the third ring.
“Sarah, it’s Cara!” I said.
“Oh, hey. Did you get a hot guy?”
“We sure did! His name is Michael Clifford, and he’s in a band called 5 Seconds of Summer.”
Sarah gasped. “You’re kidding me! Luke is in 5 Seconds of Summer! And so is his friend Calum.”
“Wow! Small world, huh?”
“Yeah! And remember Ellie Emerson? She’s an exchange student, too! Oh, and how did Blake react to you being with Michael?”
“He wasn’t happy, but I’m planning to break up with him.”
After school, I told Michael to wait by my locker while I talked to Blake. He was just leaving, so I chased after him. I finally caught up with him outside by his bus.
“Blake, we need to talk,” I said.
“This isn’t about that fag you’re with now, is it?” he asked.
“Actually, yes, it is. I’m breaking up with you.”
“What?! You can’t do that! We’ve been together since middle school!”
‘Yes, I can! You’ve been nothing but abusive to me!”
Suddenly, Blake pushed me up against the side of the bus and started beating the shit out of me, earning stares from passing students.
~~~~~
Michael’s POV
I watched as the bloke beat Cara up. I knew I had to intervene, so I rushed outside and tried to split them up, but not before the bloke gave me a fat lip.
~~~~~
Cara’s POV
I watched as Blake turned his attention to Michael, giving him a fat lip. When Blake finally got out of our sight, I noticed Michael’s lip was bleeding. “Mike, your lip’s bleeding!” I said. “Let’s go see if the nurse is still here.”
I led Michael to the nurse’s office, which was still open.
“What happened here?” Mrs. Van Pelt said when she saw Michael.
“Blake Cartwright gave him a fat lip after I broke up with him,” I said.
“And on your first day? I’m so sorry! Let me get you an icepack.” Mrs. Van Pelt went to her freezer and got an icepack for Michael. “Hold this to your lips until the swelling goes down.”
“Thanks, mate,” Michael said, obeying her.
“Anytime, hon. I’m Mrs. Van Pelt.”
~~~~~
Sydney, Sarah’s POV
The next morning, Luke and I walked into class to see Ellie and Calum talking. They sounded like they were setting up a date.
“So, we’ll leave at about seven on Friday night. Is that alright?” Calum asked Ellie.
“Sounds great!” Ellie said, and waved me over. I sat next to her.
“Did Calum just ask you out?” I asked.
Ellie blushed and giggled. “Yeah! We’re going to the movies Friday night.”
“Cool! I wish Luke would ask me out.”
“I’m sure he’s just waiting for the right time. In fact, we could make it a double date! How does that sound?”
“That sounds good,” Luke said. “I was just about to ask Sarah out, anyways.”
“Cool!” I said.
After class, I called Cara about my first date.

Chapter 4
Marysville, Cara’s POV
Michael and I were studying together when my cell phone rang. It was Sarah. “Hello?”
“Cara! Guess what?! Someone just asked me out!” Sarah exclaimed.
“That’s great, Sarah! What’s his name, and when is it?”
“Friday night! His name is Luke Hemmings, and we’re double-dating with Ellie and Calum!”
“Sweet! I wish Michael would ask me out.”
“He will, don’t worry! You’re very likeable.”
“Aw, thanks, Sarah! I needed that after having been around Blake too long.”
“Oh, speaking of Blake, did you break up with him?”
“Yeah, but he didn’t take it very well. He started beating me, and then Michael tried to save me!”
“Aww…”
After Michael and I studied for another hour, Mom called up to us and said dinner was ready. Both of us hungry, we bolted downstairs to the kitchen to see Mom serving up lasagna.
“Hey, kids,” she said. “Michael, would you help set the table, please? The silverware is in the drawer underneath the peninsula.”
“Sure thing, Linda,” Michael said, getting four sets of forks and knives from the drawer. While he set out the silverware, I poured milk for all four of us.
“How was your first day, Michael?” Daddy asked after we said grace.
“Well, besides the fact some bloke was beating Cara up, it was great!” Michael said.
“A kid beat you up, Cara?”
“Blake Cartwright did it,” I said, taking a bite of lasagna. “I told him I was breaking up with him, and he got angry. He also gave Michael a fat lip.”
“You know, I really can treat you better than that Blake bloke,” Michael said.
My heart skipped a beat. “Are you asking me out?”
“Only if you’ll say yes.”
“Of course! I got tickets to see a band called All Time Low on Saturday night. I was gonna take Sarah, but then she got into the exchange program. Would you like to come?”
“Are you kidding me?! I LOVE All Time Low! They’re our band’s biggest inspiration!”
“Sweet! We have something else in common, then!”
~~~~~
Sydney, Sarah’s POV
On Friday night, Liz drove me and Luke to the movie theater at seven. When we got there, Liz told us to have fun, and we got out.
Luke and I went into the movie theater to find Calum and Ellie waiting for us.
“I already got the tickets,” Calum said. “We’re seeing ‘Transformers’.”
I bit my lip. “Um…isn’t that a guy movie?” I asked.
“It’s for everyone!” Luke said. “You’ll like it, I promise.”
The four of us bought popcorn and went to the movie.
~~~~~
The movie was better than I expected. It had lots of action in it, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
After the movie, Luke called Liz to let her know we were done. Then, we sat on a bench near the entrance.
“Do you like penguins?” Luke asked.
“Uh…yeah, they’re cute. Why?” I said.
“I was wondering if you’d like to go to the zoo for our second date. There’s a new penguin exhibit there.”
I giggled. “Okay!”
Just then, Liz pulled up in her car, and we got in the back.

“So, how was it?” Liz asked as she started the car and pulled out of the parking lot.
“It was great,” I said. “We saw ‘Transformers’.”
“It was Calum’s idea,” Luke added. “Sarah was reluctant at first, but she gave in.”
“He’s taking me to the zoo for our next date!” I said.
“Oh, that sounds fun!”
When we got home, Luke walked me to the doorstep. “So, when do you wanna go to the zoo? Next weekend?” he asked.
“Sure!” I said, smiling.
“You have a beautiful smile, Sarah.”
“Thanks!”
Without warning, Luke leaned in and kissed me on the lips. I opened my mouth so he could put his tongue in, and we made out until I heard Liz honk her horn.
“I better go,” Luke said after we pulled away. “See you Monday!”
“You too.”

Marysville, Cara’s POV
Friday night (Marysville time) after dinner, I got a call from Sarah. I answered immediately.
“Hey, how was the movie?” I asked Sarah.
“It was amazing! We saw ‘Transformers’, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! And Luke asked me on a second date!”
“Awesome! Where are you going?”
“The zoo.” Sarah giggled. “Luke was very subtle about it at first. He asked me if I liked penguins.”
I laughed with her. “Michael and I are going to the All Time Low concert tomorrow night. I hope that’s okay.”
“That’s fine! Say hi to Alex for me!”
“I will.”
~~~~~
The next day, Daddy drove me and Michael to the concert at six. Michael and I had time to kill, so we talked about our favorite All Time Low songs while we waited.
“I like that one, too,” I heard someone say when I said I liked the song “Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don’t)”.
Michael and I turned around to see none other than Alex Gaskarth, the lead singer of All Time Low, sitting on the edge of the stage.
“Oh, my God, Alex Gaskarth!” I exclaimed.
“Yep, that’s me,” Alex said. “What’s your name?”
“I’m Cara, and this is my date Michael. He’s an exchange student from Australia.”
“I am thrilled to meet you, mate,” Michael said, shaking Alex’s hand. “I’m in a band back in Sydney, and your band is our biggest inspiration.”
“Oh, well, I’m happy to hear that. We love it when other bands are inspired by us. There’s a meet and greet after the show. Are you coming?”
“No, sorry. We have 10:00 curfews. Can I get a picture with you?” I asked.
“Sure!” Alex said, jumping off the stage. He put his arms around both of us, and I took a group selfie with my phone.
“So, how was it?” Liz asked as she started the car and pulled out of the parking lot.
“It was great,” I said. “We saw ‘Transformers’.”
“I am thrilled to meet you, mate,” Michael said, shaking Alex’s hand. “I’m in a band back in Sydney, and your band is our biggest inspiration.”
“Oh, well, I’m happy to hear that. We love it when other bands are inspired by us. There’s a meet and greet after the show. Are you coming?”
“No, sorry. We have 10:00 curfews. Can I get a picture with you?” I asked.
“Sure!” Alex said, jumping off the stage. He put his arms around both of us, and I took a group selfie with my phone.
as you can probably tell just by reading the first chapter, it's pretty...
I'd posted it on the 1D forums (they allowed other artist fanfics, just like here), and everybody who commented had loved it? well, in hindsight, they were probably just saying that to boost my ego and make me want to write more. lol
