The Comics Industry Takes a Collective Stance Against AI Art Usage

Comic editors and artists unite in expressing their distaste of AI art, which has caused some to refuse submissions for publication and conventions.

When it comes to using AI art for more than just fun, I'm not with it. It's not a thing that anyone can use and make something completely new. I recently found out AI can be used to write, and someone has used it to write their book that they intend to sell. What happened to sitting down and perfecting your skills?

It's artificial intelligence. Only smart with what it's given. Which is usually a human's hard work that took years to perfect. It's not fun getting your work stolen. They shouldn't be using it to get by in competitions, jobs, interviews etc.

AI art should be a fun tool for those of us that don't have the skills to create incredible work of art or for professionals that need inspiration.

The things I've heard from various artists on YouTube and other Youtubers that have commissioned "artists" (who have actually used AI art to get a job) suggests a lot of fraud and misuse of AI art programs. I'm not surprised tbh, give humans a decent tool and they are bound to take advantage of it and use it in a dishonest way.

All AI art generated should be saved to an online data base with a watermark of origin along with images of the real artwork (and prompts) used to create it. That way with a simple search, AI art can be easily identified when searched. Currently it seems that AI images that get created aren't saved to any type of data base thus the origin of the creation is lost and is therefore easy to pretend the work is "real".

I understand whole heartedly the protests against it. Ethics in using AI tools is going to be a very controversial topic moving forward and just because we can now use AI for creative endeavours certainly doesn’t mean we should. I imagine the big grey area will be what constitutes a tool powered by AI and what robs a human of their creative skills. It’s a scary turning point in history I think and I’m worried about the knock-ons to all creative industries (I myself work a creative job and would be scared of an AI eventually being able to replace me).
