My ears flick as the front door opens yet again. I open my eyes right as the loudest auntie makes her presence known. I can’t stand her. Some humans don’t appreciate the beauty of silence. Something about the leaves falling and the snow on the ground makes them super happy. I don’t get it.
Eventually, I’m brutally greeted by this auntie. She smells horrible. I blink up at her as she pets – ow, ouch, more like beats – my tiny head. I’ve had enough of her, and I make my escape from the living room couch where everyone else sat peacefully. There’s always one person who disrupts it.
So I decide I’m done playing nice. I trot up the stairs, the annoying bell on my collar making me visible. This is absolutely embarrassing to me. I mean, I’m supposed to sneak, be clever. After yanking it off my neck five times in two days, the humans secured it too well. I don’t even know where it ends or begins. I’ve been arrested. This is a prison, I just can’t prove it.
The second level offers me relief with a loft, currently occupied by my favorite human – my lifeline, my caretaker. Her parents own the house.
Though I love her, I can’t stand how she left me with those, those… guests. Her finger snapping will not intrigue me this time. She is not forgiven.
But since Auntie Late n’ Loud has finally arrived, it’s time for them to eat their food. I sit at the edge of the loft, my arms resting through the bars. Below, I have the best view of the dining table. They’re putting all types of food on the table. Yet I know I’ll soon be getting the same can of tuna for dinner – and I will throw it up later.
The collar makes me itch, and as I begin to scratch, I hear nothing. Once I finish, I see them all staring at me. Weirdos. My favorite even waves at me. Traitor.
As they all sit down to eat, I find the conversation to be boring. See, if I chase a red dot around the house because I’m the best hunter, it’s cute.
But these people make the most noise over promotions? Another baby human??
A dog earning an award for sitting??? Come on.
But you know what’s not boring? The beautiful toy that hangs above the table. It’s shiny, sparkly, and I’ve been meaning to get my hands on it.
I believe they called it a chandelier. Which confused me the first time I tried to grab it. I’ve never heard of a toy like that. But I’ve already told the neighborhood cats about it. They’ve been waiting for my report about the toy. I cannot let them down any further.
What I don’t get is why the humans are like “nO kiTtY, dON’t juMp” with this one, but not with those cheap feathers they like to wag in my face. I don’t want those.
I am, after all, a kitty. I see a sparkly toy dangling in my face, I’m gonna grab it. Plus, it was the largest toy I’ve ever seen, and they were trying to keep it from me?
However, they’re occupied, so it’s time to make my move. As they’re filling their mouths, I learn that the auntie has planned to go away for Christmas. Well, that definitely caught my attention, and it calls for a celebration. I climbed onto the post as they listened to her fantastic news.
So guess what I did?
And you know they had the nerve to be dramatic about it? Please.
They all looked at me. Loud auntie started complaining. My favorite human grabbed me and took me away from all of the judgment, the lies, the accusers who say I plotted to spoil their dinner.
But you all know I’m innocent.
As a result, dinner finished early. The guests left, and the day was saved. I did that. I restored peace and quiet to the home, and for that, I deserve at least some chicken tonight.
