The Dreamcatcher situation (1 Viewer)

So I just realized I never posted my thoughts on what Dreamcatcher has been doing for the past year.

For anyone unaware, Dreamcatcher are in a hiatus state. Jiu, Sua and Yoohyeon are promoting as a sub-unit called UAU, Handong has opened up a studio in China, Dami and Gahyun are for the most part MIA although they do post on their instagram, and Siyeon is prepping to start a rock band. Now as far as everyone is aware, Dreamcatcher has not technically disbanded which really doesn't mean much but that's what the members and the company are saying. It's the WJSN situation.

The majority of one of my walls is covered in their posters, I have most of their albums including a signed one, most my photo cards are of Dreamcatcher, I have their plushie merch, I have their light stick keychain merch, I have their clothing fabric keychain merch, I have multiple photo albums of theirs, I have signed photos of one of the members, I have an entire music playlist for them, Ive spent the most hours out of any other band/group listening to their music, I have folders dedicated to each member, I have a folder dedicated to GIFs, I saw them live, I made a YouTube playlist dedicated to their performances, I can recognize most their music by ear, I know a lot of group lore, I took a picture with them....

But you know it is what it is

Seeing you are a male and survived this long, I must applaud you for staying strong. I myself had been collecting everything of them and buying all versions of their albums too, signed stuff, photobooks etc. I was chased away around 2020 ish I think...I do not keep up with time tbh but if I had to guess I'd say it was around 2020.

I myself had been collecting everything of them and buying all versions of their albums too, signed stuff, photobooks etc. I was chased away around 2020 ish I think...I do not keep up with time tbh but if I had to guess I'd say it was around 2020.

I just felt unwelcomed for having the wrong gender and sexual preference (according to them). I distanced myself more from the fandom and checked out Dreamcatcher from a distance since then.

Yeah, but it sucks then if you want to enjoy small bits of content like fan edits, and reading constantly how they are for females only, or just hate towards men.

That is true, it just sucks I have almost zero interactions with their fans now. Another fan I had spoken to about a year ago went to their concert and a group of females came up to him and asked him why he was into Dreamcatcher and that he should be into, and then mentioned a boy group. I cannot remember which one they mentioned though. After that he also ended up feeling unwelcomed. Imo the interactions with fellow fans is one of the most fun bits about Kpop, but if you then encounter toxic behavior like that it's a turn off in general.

That sucks to hear. Ive never had any personal bad experiences with fanbases in general, but I usually ignore the crazy people and move on. There’s a lot of nicer people out there anyways I’m not gonna let people gatekeep my enjoyment. Ive had great times interacting with DC fans so it just depends

I'm ok with UAU's songs, but I wouldn't call me a fan of their new signature sound. Although there may be 'special' performances of the whole group in the future, I'm pretty sure Dreamcatcher disbanded inofficially.

The interesting question is if Dreamcatcher company realised that they will lose a significant amount of fans. Dreamcatcher were the reason why many international Rock and Metal fans got into K-Pop. I've read somewhere that the biggest part of their fandom were international fans. Dreamcatcher filled a niche in K-Pop. There are other groups that could fill that niche (listen to 'Enemy' by Twice and even more to 'Imaginary Friend' by Itzy), but I doubt it would happen in the near future. Rock is still not big enough in South Korea and Metal is still an 'underground' genre there.

If you like more traditional Rock girlbands like Band-Maid and The Warning, I can recommend Rolling Quartz. But there's still no other group like Dreamcatcher.
