John Tierney was a surveyor who died while surveying land for the new dam in 1921. He was the first death associated with the construction of the Hoover dam. The last death associated with the construction of the dam happened exactly 14 years later. It was Patrick Tierney, the son of John Tierney, who fell from one of the towers.
