Agreed with this explanation. I don't think it's a bad exploration of the beginning of the games, but it gave Snow an unnecessarily sympathetic backstory. To me, it read like Collins must have signed a contract to write something else that could be made into a film. It lacks the heart of the original trilogy.

personally i really liked the book, prequels are always different to the og books since it usually doesnt follow the same mcs and its set in a different timeframe compared to the one we are used to, for that reason i usually hate reading the prequels but this was written so well. i cant wait for the screen adaptation, i think hunter will kill her role as tigris

I'm honestly half half
while I liked how in the end they still subverted the morally ambiguous villain trope w snow — his ambition and selfishness remain core aspects of his personality even w a sympathetic backstory — I'm honestly just confused why we even needed to start going down that road in the first place because as you said, it's frankly unnecessary
