If you mean what is a group chat, it's a DM with three or more people in it at once, or a texting conversation with three or more people at once. That's how I define it anyway.

Ooh that would be so cool! Too many guilds might become a problem though. I don't think it would hugely impact this forum, but a forum had to shut down because lack of activity on the main forum as the remaining members were just hanging out in their guilds 😥

You have a point. It could easily become one. Maybe if that becomes a problem, just make it like with cards, where you need to make a certain amount of posts a day to post in a guild. You can view it whenever, but only post after doing so in non guild threads. I think that could work.
