So a quick recap on HCY: He debuted in 2013 after winning a singing competition in which he auditioned for by singing a song with no lyrics! The judges were all so confused but all so intrigued and they decided to give this strange boy a chance so he ended up passing the round. And it's interesting that their sudden decision really changed his whole life and the future of C-music.

The judges were very confused and they thought he was just crazy. But he impressed them and ended up moving on to the next round. This is also why he was nicknamed "martian boy". Everyone just saw him as a weird alien.

Skip to 2020 and he is now one of the most successful artists in China, if not the most popular in China right now out of the new gen singers. He has multiple records under his name and whenever he releases a song, he tops charts and basically lives at the top for months. All of his concerts sell out in seconds and he even holds the record for the most attendees + fastest to sell out. So this boy who started off by making random noises ended up growing to be the most loved artist in a country of billions.

And now, although his songs have lyrics, he still incorporates a lot of just his voice into it. Almost all of his songs have segments with no words, just sounds he makes with his mouth. And it's truly an amazing experience to be able to hear him sing.

And in my opinion, it's what really sets him apart from everyone else. He's just so fresh and really, he's not afraid to experiment. He also makes music that challenges the norms and discusses heavy topics like mental illnesses and rejecting social norms which are all otherwise considered controversial.

He's truly brilliant in every way and form. He's really an artist that everyone needs to listen to at least once.

I'm going to end this thread by posting this stunning performance. He starts off by doing what he does best: signing with his voice only. He then transitions into a beautiful classical version of his song 'Quasimodo's Gift' and then ends it with an enchanting flute performance.

No, thank you for sharing this! I actually hadn't seen this artists yet.
I feel like the word "enchanting" is very fitting, this vocal part in the beginning totally draws you in and is beautiful, then he can also sing really well and then the ending with the harp and the flute, it's all very good and beautiful.
