Feta cheese is a very famous type of cheese from Greece that many people will surely be familiar with. However, the name feta doesn’t derive from Greek at all. It comes from an Italian word fetta, meaning slice. That said, feta is a word that is technically only supposed to be used for specific cheeses from specific parts of Greece now (though in practice that’s not always true), though the original Italian word fetta remains.
