I actually had a Yuri forum from 2010 to 2012 called Yuri Garden and had built it to just over 2000 members and roughly 500 of them were male but roughly 1500 of them were female, so already you can see a higher ratio of women .

When I hear that people say that Yaoi is for women and Yuri is for men, it annoys me because although it may be true for Yaoi since that was originally intended for women, by women.
Yuri was also originally created for women by women.

Oh really? I'm sorry to hear that! I've actually had a run in with other Yuri fans (mainly male) as I told them that there are more female Yuri fans than male Yuri fans (which is true) but they got a bit angry about it.
The trouble is, there are some people who don't do enough research on the subject they are supposedly into and only think what they wanna know or hear and that can cause problems.
Also when people call it Shoujo-ai, that also becomes a problem as in Japan it means you love little girls, but the west think it's a softer term for Yuri and they think Yuri is a more erotic version of girls' love, but actually Yuri can mean all types of Girls' Love, whether it's soft romance type or the erotic type.

I have just watched first season of Yuru Yuri which was cute, i should probably get around watching rest of the season i think there is three so far. I haven't watched lot of yuri / shoujo-ai though so if someone wants to recommend me sth good I'll add it to my plan to watch. I'll be probably more into shoujo-ai- meaning the non-sexual stuff.

I have seen / read many of Riyoko Ikeda's work now that it has come up as topic, Lady Oscar aka Rose of Versailles (not GL) was one my childhood animes I watched from VHS tapes, and later on I read Oniisama e and some of her shorter works. I really like how she handles gender stuff I mean it's not perfect, most of her works being quite old and bit outdated, but I appreciate it nevertheless.

Watch and read these ones first, then if you like them, I'll give you more, if not, we can end it there :)

Well yes, i don't just regard the western community's terms and descriptions wrong, simply different ^^

I mostly watch anime, so ill check those out and see what i find. Some sound familiar like strawberry panic already. Thanks for recs :)
