I noticed that word is used a lot here. I had a pretty good idea of where that word started but to make sure I did a little research and turns out I was right. It originates from Eminem’s song “Stan” which was my favorite song from him for some time. I’m curious as to how many of you know this.

I thought alot of people knew this..
I mean alot exhibit similar obsessive behaviour as fans especially in kpop, not as extreme as Stan does in the song (although their are a few out there, oli London somewhat comes to mind)... Unless you haven't heard the song, you kinda would have put two and two together but I think alot of kpop fans see it more as a Kpop based term seeing how oftenly its used to describe a dedicated fan, so they don't look beyond that to origins of it I suppose.

Its been re-imagined for the new millennium tho, i think. Eminem i think has no issue with kpop appropriating it but some of his listeners rlly hv trouble accepting it. Uhm, hv you heard the song 'Stan'? If you cant accept it being re-imagined i think its a you problem. Tat song was almost forgotten/lay low for what, 20/25 yrs? Originally i think critics/listeners were ambivalent abt 'Stan' maybe. Not sure if they thot it was satirical or advocating being a violent fan, maybe. Problematic originally in its time. But imagine if 'Stan' 15/20 yrs l8r became a non-violent/less aggressive fan? Rehabilitated even. Or if he reconciled/got married/had a kid who looked up to his present self n became a modern stan, as the term is used in kpop circles. Isnt tat a good possibility?

Ugh, I always see men on social media trashing Armys and other kpop fans who call themselves stans because “scary! stalker! oOOOoOoo!” when they know perfectly well what the word actually means nowadays and just want an excise to belittle Kpop as something only obsessed crazy teen girls like. Bleh. Why does society hate teen girls so much
