Appreciation The RETRO vibe/sound in K-pop has owned 2020! (1 Viewer)

[OnlyCalB]

This is an opinion/appreciation thread!

The RETRO vibe/sound has owned this year's K-pop scene. I've loved so many different comebacks/songs this year, from main title tracks to B-sides, but retro has taken this year by storm for me. Who knew this would be the year of so many good retro K-pop songs.

My favourites:

My song of the Year:
EVERGLOW - 'LA DI DA'

GFRIEND - 'MAGO'

TWICE - 'I Can't Stop Me'

APINK - 'Dumhdurum'

LOONA - 'Star/Voice'

Other really good mentions:

fromis_9 - 'Feel Good (Secret Code)'

April - 'LALALILALA'

Brave Girls - 'We Ride'

MAMAMOO - 'Dingga'

So, what do you think of the retro vibe/sound this year.

Please recommend me some BGs that have released retro songs this year

I found this video and it really drives home what a year it's been with all the retro sounds lol, complete with low resolution and the old MTV logo

This one too!

Spoiler: YooA - 'Diver'

[Yili]

These are a different kind of "retro" one is a old band musical kind of feel, the other is a disco mixed with some modern elements

I'm loving the Seventeen song!

[Lovely_Cornchips]

I actually really vibed with it. I think mainly because last year when I fell out of Kpop I fell back in love with some older music from like the 70s 80s and 90s. So returning to Kpop to have some of that brought into the music made me enjoy it a bit more and while I originally didn't love MAGO it grew on me.

I'm loving the Seventeen song!

they absolutely killed their mama live too when they did a 20s inspired live~ i love this year for Seventeen

Do you like 80's music?

If so do you have any faves artists/songs from that era? Like rock, rock-ballads, disco, pop?

[OnlyCalB]

@geegell What do you think of the retro sound this year?

fromis_9 released a good one!

[eclipsoul]

all songs you posted are among my favourites this year, i love them so much! retro concepts are my favourite thing EVER in k-pop. it probably has a lot to do with the fact that outside of k-pop all i listen to is music from the 80s/90s (although sound-wise my favourite songs outside of kpop are completely different than my favourite kpop songs)

How have I been sleeping on Brave Girls for nearly a decade?

I really love this retro 2020 trend, there were some amazing songs Alongside the songs that were already mentioned I'm going to bring up SoRi's "Initial S":

[honeyfornomoney]

I agree

[Myco]

I'm still sad DONGKIZ changed their concept right when this style got popular, their title tracks until Lupin were all pretty retro/funky

Don't worry, so has their CEO Brave Brothers aka Brave Sound
They have BOPS tho.
