especially the meaning, "to retaliate to a rude/disrespectful/whatnot person". I mean, ytou usually clap to show appreciation, not the opposite. I'm going to have to Google the origin, unless @Ahsoka CAN ANSWER THIS?

I didn’t know myself, but according to Google it came from AAVE, where clap was used to mean shooting someone. Clapback was popularized through a rap song with the meaning of returning (metaphorical) fire, and that’s how it became well known
