A comment also wrote down their current spike in the Korean charts. The song wasn't even close to the top 1000 at release.
Melon - 34
Genie - 41
Bugs - 4
Flo(24hrs) - 14
Vibe - 19
YouTube music SK (weekly chart) - 4
All their other songs are slowly gaining traction as well.
21+ Million monthly listeners on Spotify
Cupid (Twin Ver.) almost at 100 Million streams, Cupid (normal Version) almost at 50 Million over on Spotify as well.
You basically have to thank TikTok at this point for the song to go extremely viral on the app. Say what you want about success stories like that from TikTok but in my opinion it's really easy to tell when a song was created solely for the reason to go viral on TikTok and songs that weren't produced with that mindset, that were fortunate enough to gain some sort of snowballing. Cupid is clearly a song that got the lucky snowballing effect while being an amazing song. Even crazier that it is a group from a company that barely has any connection on their business side to push the song with a lot of promo - they had enough money for only a week of promotion on Korean music shows!
I think the two main reasons the song went so well with the western audience at first is that the English Twin Version is the best English translated K-Pop song. Fight me on that but you won't win. It's solid as hell! The other part is that the lyrics are just so damn relatable for many people. It's thanks to going viral outside of Korea that, they were just a few days ago, able to have their first showcase and thus starting their climb in Korean music charts.
