Sensitive "They aren't real fans"(TW: Death/rape threats) (1 Viewer)

Of course we hear this all the time and it makes sense in some cases, for example when Exo-Ls said they were dropping Baekhyun because he posted an image of him eating dinner with SuperM. But in some cases I don't follow this logic at all. The most recent example is Blinks that are hating on Treasure. I understand not wanting to admit that people who are sending death threats or threatening to rape a members little sister are in the same fandom as you. But what makes them not blinks? As far as I know being a blackpink fan doesn't mean that what you do to other groups matter. You may be a blackpink fan who is just a terrible person but you're still a blackpink fan and therefore a blink no?

What are your thoughts? I just brought up blinks and Treasure because they're the most recent example I thought of, but its happened with other fandoms, and I'm not hating on blackpink fans, just those that are being actually horrible people.

Well this whole situation reminds me of how religious people do similar.
Like when a Christian does something 'un christian-like' like killing someone, then other Christians will say 'they are not a Christian' or if a Muslim does something 'un Muslim-like' then other Muslims will say 'they are not Muslim and don't belong to Islam' or something like that.
I think it's stupid and if someone says they are a certain thing, then that is what they are, it's that simple.
Just because their actions go against what you believe is right, does not mean they aren't what they say they are.

It's the same for K-pop Stan's, etc.

Honestly this is just getting taken way too far now. I know that Blinks are mad about Blackpink not getting a comeback. I get it. However, to blatantly defame, bash, and send rape/death threats is just crossing the line. It’s completely disgusting behavior.

There is actually name for this kind of argument. I found it out recently and thought it was cool to have name for it.

"No true Scotsman". Wikipedia has pretty theoretical explanation of it, but it's pretty much about denying that some people belong to the group by simply stating that no true person of said group would do a certain action.

I think it's good not to generalize whole group, but it's also bad to ignore bad part of group by simply claiming they aren't part of the group. Cause this part of group continues causing problems no matter how much you deny their existence.

I've seen all the mess around that topic and I honestly hope people can come back to their senses. Nothing, nothing is worthy of such awful behavior esp. because is just kpop, we are very passionate about it but at the end it's just that.

To me, that behavior doesn’t help the situation at all. You aren’t acknowledging the problem, just shrugging it off. Saying things like “we don’t claim those fans” is not going to solve the problem.

If a person likes an idol/group's music and follows them and/or participates in the fandom, they're part of that fandom. Period.

Fans/Fandoms like to distance themselves from things that (possibly) casts a negative light on their fandom or group. It's natural. They don't want to be clumped in with that bad behavior, and it may generally not be their experience to be around folks like that in the fandom (mutuals, people they generally associate with in the fandom). However, acting like the idiots/undesirables/overall-terrible-people of their fandom aren't, in fact, fans of the group(s) they're fans of is disingenuous at best, and deflecting at worst.

I think, more than anything, people deflect so as to not have to deal with the conversation that comes from it. Like, one, they can't police anyone. What the hell are they supposed to do about idiots in their fandom but to disavow them? And two, people who do not like the fandom or group anyway, for the most part, don't want that genuine conversation. They want one-upmanship. Just another outlet to say, "X are the worst! Why aren't Y controlling their fandoms!" And occasionally, "Z would never!"

So, overall, I think people should acknowledge that yes, these folks are real fans. Real deranged fans, but real fans nonetheless. After that, they can 1) publicly call out that faction of the fandom and 2) send love to the group and/or fandom that's being attacked by the idiot fans, show them some love as a public display of love and 'no hard feelings' instead of closing ranks and being silent or closing ranks and saying "that's not all of us!" Others can either accept that and move on or prove themselves to be just as toxic as the people they're railing against.

Well every fandom has their nut jobs i think Korea and Japan is among the worst because no one took the time in the infant years to put a foot down and stand against this behavior. Japan being worse because there has been literally attacks on artists. Thus why if you go to an event in japan chances are you will not be able to get close to them. Yes, I know there have been some attempts made on Korean artists, I think this can only escalate if fans are not put in places they belong.

It's better/safer for the fans and it's better for the artists/

The Treasure bashing was ridiculous to begin with but now they're threatening people's family members? Some of these kids on Twitter really need to give their heads a shake! Do schools not give you kids the social media talk anymore? You know the one where they tell you things stay on the internet forever and colleges look up your social media profiles when looking at your application?

It really boils my piss whenever I see young people acting all shocked that their behaviour on social media has real life consequences. I hope YG pursues legal action against these people or at the very least, someone who has authority in their life sees the things they're posting and calls them out on it!
