Indeed. For his sake at least the Kaiser managed to survive the outcome too for an okay time even after abdication. Nicholas on the other hand….

For real, he was definitely an incompetent leader but didn’t seem to be a bad person. Same with his wife, she was know to have social anxiety and that made her very private but people assumed she was a stuck up snob. And then the whole Rasputin thing. Telling the truth about it would be suicide and not telling the truth about it would be suicide This is why marriage based on love doesn’t work for the rulers of the past (not blaming everything on that though)

Yeah, his incompetence is not questionable, but he didn’t deserve this. Nor his wife or the children. The whole story sounds like a horrible tale, something that should’ve never happened.
Adding Rasputin to the story and the legends about Anastasia surviving make this more complicated.
Sad or not, but I agree with what you said, love often didn’t help for the rulers of the past.
