I was reading about Awa Maru, a Japanese ship sunk in WW2. Quick summary, this ship was supposed to be given free passage through the oceans due to its use as a Red Cross POW War Relief ship. The agreement was because of its usage, it would be given free passage as long as it gave its route to the allies, which it did. The US still torpedoed it, and all people onboard except for one died. But it gets extra crazy here because it wasn’t a one time thing. It wasn’t his first, or even second, time being a sole survivor of a torpedoed ship. This was his third time being the only one alive. I don’t know stats on this and how often it happens but it seems pretty impressive luck
