In language, different dialects will sometimes pronounce words in such a way that in one dialect, two words are pronounced the same, but in other dialects, they have a distinctly different pronunciation. They’re titled simply by the words sounding the same. For example, someone who pronounces caught and cot the same has the caught-cot merger.

And therefore we have the pawn-porn merger Which is quite common in British English. If I taught linguistics I’d totally use this somehow to get a reaction out of sleepy unsuspecting students at some point
