The floods in Pakistan.
The death toll is over 1,300 and a third of them are literal children. On Saturday alone, there were 57 reported deaths, 27 of them being children. The floods being a mix of monsoons and melting glaciers up in the north. Over a third of the country was underwater at one point and 33 million people have been affected. Over 3 million children are in urgent need of help because of waterborne diseases, drowning, and malnutrition. People are homeless without having any place to go because the government doesn't give a shit. The floods have destroyed over 17,500 schools which is taking a huge effect on children's education right after COVID closures. People will have to start from scratch if the government doesn't do anything. The most effected provinces are Balochistan and Sindh where water systems and other things have been heavily damaged. More than a million homes have been completely destroyed and over 5,000 kilometers of roads have been damaged.
Imagine how all these poor people who are losing many loved ones to these disastrous floods must feel. I have lots of family in Pakistan and fortunately they haven't been affected by the floods but one of my aunts does live in one of the flooded areas. In videos you can see how strongly the water pushes people away leading them onto their death. Bystanders have tried so hard to save the drowning people but have not always been successful in doing so.
One day, my aunt was going to another province to visit my aunt. On the way back the bridge that the train was on was beginning to collapse because of all the water but fortunately they are safe.
Animals and people are dying, homes and buildings are being destroyed, people are losing their jobs, diseases are forming, children's education is being jeopardized and it's all because we humans are not being wise with how we treat our planet.
