To be fair imagine you were told that as of now, you need to stop speaking whatever language you were speaking your whole life and had to learn Esperanto. That wouldn’t go over well either, especially for older people. Ideally the US and other countries that use the imperial system would have switched to metric ages ago before it became difficult to switch everyone who learned it already. Besides, many people in the science/engineering fields dk use metric along with imperial, particularly when collaborating with other countries.
