Sun Yat Sen was a Chinese figure who was instrumental in overthrowing the Qing dynasty in China. He started working towards a revolutionary overthrow since 1894, when he tried to give a reform petition to a government member but was refused. After years of fundraising and failed rebellions, the Wuhan Uprising in 1911 led to a successful revolution. Sun Yat Sen was not actually involved, as he was in the US trying to get more support for a revolution. He only learned about the successful revolution and that fact that he was being considered for the role of president of the new Republic of China via newspapers. He went on to become the president of the republic, but only for a very short time.
