Thoughts on Comeback fundraising? (1 Viewer)

I've seen this for years with many fandoms and always thought it was questionable at best. Also it seems like it would actually be more useful to buy albums than advertising.

I read the form and they're using the funds to buy votes for music shows? That's very confusing to me, because there are objectively very successful songs with no music show wins and it's not like a music show win actually puts money into the artist's pocket. I think, if you've got money to throw away that you want to use for your faves, it'd be better spent buying more albums.

I generally do not like all the fandom stuff honestly.. mass buying of albums, streaming goals, whatever they do.. this whole culture does not feel right to me

idk about this, there was an account among stays who collected money for streaming during God's Menu era and bought an iphone from the money. It's even sadder knowing God's Menu is their breakout song and didn't win one music show...

Yeah, you can actually buy votes for music shows but album sales and streams make a bigger difference

Legit one of the songs I was thinking of that is undeniably extremely successful, but with no music show wins.

There's also aespa's Next Level, Fifty Fifty's Cupid, BTS's Not Today, Seventeen's Very Nice, Pentagon's Shine, Gfriend's Me Gustas Tu, SNSD's Forever 1, most of Day6's discography... There's just so many artists these days that winning on a music show is a matter of timing and luck that most companies aren't going to bother to specifically plan for these days, especially ones with so many acts to manage. Trying to structure a comeback to guarantee a music show win could interfere with another one of their artist's upcoming schedules.

Agreed. Seeing the piles of albums that get bought for charting and thrown in the trash straight away makes me dislike the wastefulness of it all. But at least there's an argument that buying an album directly supports an artist. "help us buy more phones for more artificial votes on music shows" is like

I bet there were big acts then too like BTS or such

But the fact is JYP did prepare for this one, they pushed it with teasers and there were even 3- 4 different version of the albums. They even had vlives with other jyp artists guesting on there, they said 'by chance' but i dont buy that. And funnily enough the repackage 3 months later had 2 wins already

did you know there are groups who crowdsource their comeback funds

as in they literally open a crowdsource to fund the comeback (MVs/outfits/makeup etc etc)
