Thoughts on XG entering the kpop scene and how well they'll do in future? (1 Viewer)

They have yet to drop a korean single but did some rather heavy promo on korean music shows during their last comeback. With amazing views for a rookie group no less.





members seem to all be stunners and stars on stage, cocona went viral for rapping recently as well. Overall, a very powerful rapline. Well above many GGs.



and if plans proceed with Hikaru from Kep1er once contracts end, and she rejoins XG, could we be seeing some full korean promotion and singles?

And yes, they're a jpop group promoting in korea while being marketed as a global group with english singles... but I'm still excited to see what they keep dropping and how much more they'll grow in terms of popularity! they have the potential imo.

My main gripe is that they keep dropping singles (with no bsides to boot). I understand that companies want to pump these out fast and maybe they don’t want to invest in more b-sides since they wouldn’t stream that great. But I really think a more expanded work can allow us to see more of their potential and give them some shape identity wise. Like, the rapline is so good but I only get some small tastes of that in their songs. The performances and cover content really show the range the girls have, and I want more of that to be used in their music.

Also, more variety content would be good to help people connect to the girls personality. Like they do have some behind the scenes content and whatnot on their yt channel, which is lovely, but I think there needs to be more.

exactly, my biggest concern while getting more hooked on the group. The singles tactic until Hikaru joins the group... I am not here for it lol. They can surely afford to drop a mini at the very least, officially along with the cyphers and other things.

their YT channel is full of great vids to start and learn about the group, along with other BTS content for every activity, still I agree they lack the necessary promo on variety to really cement the group into kpop (which is what's been crucial to their popularity). Given there's still a lot of the following remarks " they're jpop, not kpop! they don't even sing in korean! why are they promoting in korea? they shouldn't be! "

In due time if the company plays their cards right, eng, jp, and krn tracks should all come in the future for a potential global group.

yup, also think they need to drop a great deal more in their discography for me to personally stan as well. It's also just what they generally need to gain a stable fanbase going forward..

Feel like they’ll def do Korean or Japanese full singles in the future. They already do Eng/Japanese rapping and singing given Japanese is their native forefront, and they should take advantage of the good multi-lingual promo.

Jpop by proxy obviously because well.. they are Japanese and do speak and also perform in Japanese while also using jpop culture and interviews to promote themselves with said fan base. Just like they currently did with Korean, because they know it’s what’s most popular to get them that global market. So, I think every tag is correct until they make it big globally given the company is relying heavily on the jpop and kpop tags right now to promote them and reach that.

it’s possible, and I love the idea, them being multilingual along with their music. That’s what a global group does.

Also, a good point just brought up by a friend, whether they need to even be labeled jpop, kpop, or global, and just let them do their own thing without the restrictions that fandoms try to put down on each of those. Given fandom culture folk like to heavily gatekeep with each market they try to enter.

And if things never work out globally, they have options to fall back on to sustain the group.
