Or at least reducing the intensity of the symptoms

My sister and I have a week off uni and it's her birthday today so we decided to go on a spontaneous trip since she loves adventure. So she bought tickets for a tour bus and we'll be going tomorrow. The problem is, I just found out that it is 3 hours to our first destination with no stops and the bus has no windows for air. I have severe motion sickness and it's too late to go to a doctor now since all the pharmacists around are closed now and the earliest they open is 9AM. We must board the bus at 8:15AM. So I'm going to need some tips to reduce the intensity of the motion sickness. I don't want to cancel because we paid for it and she's really excited about it too. But I also don't want to be super sick to the point that I won't even be able to do anything once we get there because I'm dying.

Any tips that work for you?

wow damn, this shouldn't be even allowed wtf

my sister has motion sickness as well especially when she reads while riding or sth so definitely don't do that, maybe just put in your ear plugs, listen to music and close your eyes/try to sleep.

And even if you're not into it maybe some calming asmr/meditation audios for you to concentrate on what they are saying instead of the driving?

I get quite mild motion sickness. Sitting on front seats either in car or bus helps. Also not eating or drinking on the bus or right before it. And not reading anything while on bus, i usually listen music instead.

I get pretty intense motion sickness sometimes in cars or planes and usually some Dramamine would help me, though that's something you take pre-ride and then keep on top of it thereafter.

Thanks for the tips! I read your replies but didn't get to reply to you all since I fell asleep.

Surprisingly I had a bit of a head ache during the trip but I actually didn't feel nauseous. And fortunately, they stopped every hour or so to give us a break. I don't know how I would have been able to deal if it was actually 3 hours long with no break. So as soon as I started to feel sick, they gave us a little break so I got some fresh air and that helped a lot.

Oops I was gonna try to give some tips but I'm glad you ended up not getting super sick!
I would still appreciate those for next time if you don't mind. :)

Someone said don't eat/drink before going on; I'd actually advise against that! Definitely make sure you're hydrated because dehydration can lead to nausea; same with hunger. I always eat something light like some crackers or a piece of fruit. A lot of times, anxiety about the motion sickness contributes just as much nausea as the actual motion sickness does and an empty stomach can intensify anxiety.

Breathing! It sounds weird but breathing is soooo important. One of the best ways I avoid my severe motion sickness is by counting my breathes. In the nose, 1; out the mouth, 2 etc.

A lot of people say to stare at the horizon but that tends to make me more sick so I keep my eyes closed and focus on breathing. This one just depends on what works for you.

Music can also help distract you and ease some of the anxiety, but honestly the best thing you can do to help is breathe

Thanks! I felt like I was going to choke (on nothing) for a bit on the bus yesterday so my sister told me to breathe too and it worked. I never tried it for motion sickness before so I'll try it next time. And I found that music doesn't work for me. It just makes my headache worse. 😟 But lectures work. Things that require me to focus without being invasive (like reading) work. I listened to a podcast from one of my favorite lecturers last night on our way back and I forgot all about my headache.
