because as someone who booked a ticket to first day screening at soon as it was possible i am ready to say that i didn't like it... BECAUSE ACTUALLY I LOVED IT MORE THAN I COULD IMAGINE it was 100% good old movie fun that i needed these days with margot's and ryan's performances exceeding my expectations (i'm just ken SOTY). and with all the fun i had, i still appreciated the emotional moments like the conversations barbie had with the spirit of ruth who created the doll. the human character gloria was also very relatable to me even though i'm closer to the age of her daughter lol. since coming-of-age is a common theme in all greta gerwig's movies so far, i saw people compare the journey from barbieland to real world to reaching adulthood and going from thinking that the world is your oyster to slowly realising there are things you have no say over and to catching up with some real life problems. i really felt it when barbie said she loved it when life in barbieland was "perfect" and doesn't want any changes on a personal level because i also have a hard time adjusting to changes in life even though they are inevitable and her words kind of mirrored my current situation. i know there has been some conversation criticising the social commentary in the movie like for example the kens taking over and yet barbie being the one apologising to ken or gloria's monologue being too on-the-nose and while i understand their point of view, this movie still means a lot to me and i'm glad it's out there for me to watch in theatres.

I LOVED the movie! The overall message was nice and I got teary eyed at some parts in the movie, which I didn't expect lol. It was also pretty funny. I'm probably going to be re-watching this movie a lot. I love the scene when Barbie is sitting at the bus stop and looks at the older woman and calls her beautiful. It was such a sweet moment <3. That touched my heart. There were so many iconic scenes, lmao especially the depression barbie commercial. I lost it when they showed the Pride & Prejudice part lmao.

Margot killed it of course and Ryan did amazing as Ken! I will admit I wasn't a fan of Ryan being casted when I first saw the initial teasers. Sorry Ryan. Turns out, he is Kenough <3 Especially when he went back and all the Kens took over Barbieland... The damn horses I was laughing so much. It was hilarious, but also sad because the "real" world is so male dominated and I liked how the movie shed light on that, along with the harsh judgement that women receive from others. As a woman myself, I resonated with a lot of what was said. I think we all have feelings of inadequacy at times and struggle with society expecting us to be a certain way. My theatre went crazy when Barbie was talking about feeling ugly and then the narration said something like "Margot is probably the wrong person to cast if you wanna make this point" LOL, but even then it goes to show that the most gorgeous women still have days when they may feel not so attractive and confident, despite what people may think.

Also I gotta praise Allan <3 He was such an ally and I liked how he didn't let the Kens influence him. A true icon. He fought off all those dudes too. He was not playin around with them

Something that surprised me is how Mattel was okay with their company not being shown in the best light, showcasing some faults they have. Greta Gerwig ate with this movie <3. The sets and outfits were gorgeous! I'm also glad that Margot decided to step in play Barbie instead of Amy Schumer loool. The backlash from some conservatives are annoying because they are missing the whole point of the movie, but whatever... they can stay mad.

I won't say too much.
Even without the trailer spoiling the movie, like the majority of others do, all I'll say is I kind of expected what the plot would be to an extent, since it was a clash between fictional and real worlds.

The movie was very fun! I also did not expect to like the Kens so much, but they were really hilarious

solid, but I hold very mixed views about it
on one hand I really do want to like it as I enjoyed Great's previous films, but for something so touted for its feminism it felt very... second wave feminism which isn't bad, just very very behind in times and the monologue felt very forced
if anything the way so many felt themselves finally articulated and found it groundbreaking is the part that saddens me the most
that being said, loved loved loved the dream ballet sequence, and I truly appreciate the effort in practical effects
