To what extent do you separate the music from the artist? (1 Viewer)

How bad must the act be for you to cancel an artist/stop listening to them? Can you separate the artist from the art, or do you equate them? And to what extent?​

My philosophy is if the art is more important than the artist then yeah, but this alone can be subjective. For me, most times I can separate the art from the artist

I listen to songs that have artists who’ve done bad things. That’s not to say though that it has no effect. When listening to a soloist who did messed up things (like Seungri) I do have to say I find it hard to completely forget what he’s done, or even when an idol from a group who did something wrong appears in a song and I notice their existence. And if I’m reminded of that, it does spoil my mood a bit, which is understandable, and therefore Im likely to not like the song as much because of that.

firstly I've always said I can listen to any artist or group regardless of what they've done or if I'm a fan of them or not

secondly I've never cancelled anyone but if others so choose to they can it's their right just as they can also defend said artist if they wish

I will judge an artist's conduct just as i would if it were real life - what is the person's character his morality and if theirs is much different to mine or what I consider an optimal perspective then it behooves me to no longer associate myself with that person

it can ruin the mood if the artist has done something terrible that you're against, you can always listen to them and separate art from the artist but it just depends

as long as the song is good, i'll listen, sometimes regardless of what they've done, but also a lot of times when i stop listening to somebody, i'd gone into their music when i didn't know what they'd done, but most of the time i kinda forget about what they've done and just enjoy the music they've created
