To you, is thanksgiving a family thing or everyone you know thing? (1 Viewer)

My mom has a habit of inviting her friend and their own family over, which means I eat quickly and leave quickly because I don’t like being around people I don’t know well. Besides, I feel like they can have their own thanksgiving so why come us? It’s not like my family is small (okay maybe by some people’s standards but not mine, there’s 4 of us plus my parents, 6 people is more than enough without adding more).

What do you guys think? Would you invite friends or leave it at family?

for me its neither bcs im not american lol

but i personally probs wouldnt mind having friends if they all contributed w the food (bcs ik it takes a ton of time preparing everything)

It’s just family with us, so just three. A few years ago we were taking care of two boys who we consider to be family but because were so close there’s no awkwardness. Just me being annoyed constantly by a 12 and 10 year old because we see each other as siblings and they show no mercy.

Usually it's a family thing for us, but if there's someone who's just a family friend they would be invited to celebrate with us too

It is usually a family thing. My mom and I would head over to my aunt's house to meet up. It would be me, my mom, my aunt, my older female cousin , my older male cousin's ex-girlfriend, both of his kids (ages 10 and 7), and the ex-girlfriend's mother.

I'm not sure if my other cousin will be flying to NJ for Thanksgiving to celebrate with us.

My family tends to do just family, but family becomes huge very quickly when you have divorces/remarriages/extended family in the bunch... for the past few years my family does not do anything for Thanksgiving, so I guess that's okay.
