I know the title sounds kinda weird, like no is such an often used word by everyone but there are a few people, including me that just have a really hard time saying no due to multiple reasons.
For me , it's that i'm just too kind and would feel bad if I denied requests, like at work when one of the residents want something done most of the time I do it even if it's technically not in my work description and I don't get any extra money for it. Before Covid hit the earth we had a few events at our facility where I ended up staying longer than my 8 hour day cuz I felt bad leaving my 2 other colleagues alone.
Now it's been around 2 and a half year I've been working there and today I finally said no.
My shift ended and there were some residents coming that still wanted coffee and I finally said "It's past my shift, I don't get paid for this." I feel like I've been kind ever since starting there so I can allow myself to say no like this once in a while right?
I still felt kinda bad because it was just me, our boss and the janitor (most of the time we only work as 3 during the day) so the janitor most likely ended up making coffee altho he still had other work to attend to, but at the end of the day I don't think it's my issue and fault that we're understaffed, if I had stopped working there before my contract renewal I don't know what they would've done without me and I know they didn't have any plan for a replacement.
Anyways, the character development was strong today! Hopefully my glow up will come soon too
