A favourite past time of the British folk is to sound polite but the reality couldn't be further from the truth.

"I beg your pardon" is a term that I use on a near daily basis. Only last night I used it whilst dealing with a disrespectful colleague who displayed a complete lack of respect towards those whom are senior to him.

Had a few awkward moments whilst in Afghan when I would ask a fellow British Squaddie for a fag and then having to explain to our American counterparts who weren't yet familiar with our British slang....
