But someone was obnoxiously wrong and that obviously can't stand. Do you try to limit arguing with people online?

I usually ignore it… until it is late at night and I am bored and want to point out people’s stupidity

Yep, that was me in the past when I was like: I need to tell people that they're wrong! Because it could save the universe from temporal anomalies in the space-time-continuum!

Lesson learned. Nowadays I tell people that they're wrong and I tell them why. Once! And then I leave the discussion.

Right! Some stuff is just rude and needs to be called out.

My personal pet peeve is when people jump on someone who made a general statement for not taking their personal situation into consideration, E.g. "Your tips for improving waffles are USELESS, have you considered that I am allergic to waffles and will literally DIE if I follow your recipe?!" Like jfc, someone was just talking to the void, it's not always about you.

For real like if you make an accusation, the least thing you can do is link your proof.
Person refuses to do it so I've been pushing their buttons for like a weeks now

I used to argue with people a lot bc I just couldn't leave well enough be, but now that I've had therapy, I've learned to ignore it, unless I can say what I want in a less-than-rude manner. If I feel like a comment I'm about to make is rude or insensitive, I always pass it by my mom or caregiver.

That's smart. I try to remind myself that I don't usually walk away from a negative interaction feeling better, but some things just get under my skin! It's a work in progress.

If I believe I can help them see they're wrong, I try but most of the time I don't bother

I try to do what I do in real life in that the point isn't to prove someone else wrong regardless of what I believe them to be wrong since in the entire history of the internet how many people have come out and said "my bad you're right and I'm wrong"

the point is to have a discussion (respectfully) and ultimately it is up to the other person (or sometimes even oneself) to change one's opinions
