Sensitive [TW: Transphobia] i never realized how bad transphobia was in America until the Chris Tyson situation (1 Viewer)

now first of all, i'm not a Mrbeast fan and I do not watch his videos so I know barely anything about Chris.

if you don't know what happened, basically a close friend and co-worker of Mrbeast's, Chris Tyson, (goes by any pronouns) came out as transgender and revealed that they are on HRT.

as you might guess, Mrbeast fans weren't happy with lots of people saying that Chris is a horrible parent for depriving their child of a father figure and other transphobic shit and it's so sad to see.

Also parents going out of their way to say that they won't allow their children to watch Mrbeast anymore.

But yeah, as a trans person myself, i was brought to tears after seeing all the transphobia in their comment section. i knew the world was filled with hateful people but after this situation it just made me realize just how horrible people can really be. to all my fellow trans folks out there, just know that you are loved and your feelings 100% valid.

It's crazy, growing up I thought that society moves forwards with the times, but seeing people push for the reversal of laws because they think something is "icky" or someone told them it's wrong makes me understand how genocides and whatnot can occur. Obviously I'm not saying someone who goes on twitter to say they disagree with a law is the equivalent of Hitler. But that is another example, pre Nazi era Berlin was a pretty okay place to be LGBT comparatively (nowhere was perfect ofc back then), but LGBT people seemingly flocked to Berlin, just for everything to go downhill for them and for too many of them leading to their own deaths. I'm just bringing this up as another example of how society can go backwards with exclusivity, just saying that both cases (though very different levels ofc) it feels live we're devolving in general and it's sad to see.

my dad watches a lot of right wing talking heads, and this guy was brought up. I didn’t pay attention to what was said and tuned it out but now I get it.

my dad wholeheartedly embraces these kinds of anti trans narratives and like… idk ig I can eyeroll and be like “typical boomer” but it is saddening that trans people, even passingly, are seen so negatively and taken down. They are just human and being themselves. It’s fine and no need to pearl clutch and terrorize…

I feel the same way, and can also empathize with how you feel. Pretty much everyone but me in my family is pretty openly transphobic, and while I’m not trans, some of my closest IRL friends are, and it’s so hard, especially since neither of them has supportive families. I just wish people were more accepting.

I remember hearing about that from r/asktransgender since I sometimes browse there to learn more about the community and how to be a better ally to trans people. Someone there asked how people were coping with the whole situation and how Twitter was reacting. I had heard nothing about it, so looked it up and I was so appalled by the comments I saw, I had trouble scrolling for more than a couple minutes. It was rough.
