again? this is the 2nd or 3rd thread about twitter thinking dreamcatcher are racist i've seen in less than a month it's not my culture so i'm not going to speak up on that but if the main problem is the name then i don't think anyone should go as far as calling the members themselves racist because they didn't even choose it.

People just want to scream racism for everything rn. Same goes with cases. People thought police didn't search for Naya at night because she was a black latina (the lake was too dangerous to search at night).
All this does is taking attention away to real cases of racism. We see it everyday for the smallest shit that we get immune to it and in the end won't even bother.

Dreamcatcher hasn't had these problems when they first debuted, it happens every full moon.
I have a dreamcatcher in my room for 15+ years? Am I racist now? Am I appropriating? No. (it might not be made by native Americans, I bought it at Oxfam so it did help someone).
It's funny cuz they will yell this but don't support MMIW for example. (Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, 23% of missing cases are IW and it's an alarmingly high number but no one bats an eye)

Cultural appropriation doesn't equal racism.. Racism is belief that one race is superior. Using concept from another culture cause you think it's cool is not racist. Ofc you can misuse that concept, even in a way that is offensive and then dialogue might be best. But in terms of cultural appropriation- or borrowing which word I like better, if it's not harmful to said culture it shouldn't be issue.

Good example is different food cultures. Is non-asian chef who makes and sells sushi racist? What about non-italian pizzerias, for example turkish kebab pizzerias my country is full of? I think most are perfectly ok when chef studies another country's cuisine, starts selling it or maybe even alters it- lot of cuisines we associate as products of certain country have actually been inspired by something else from other culture. Why is inspiration from other cultures ok and good thing what comes to food items, but not ok what comes to at least non-religious clothing/items..

Dreamcatcher is not using dreamcatchers in the way that would mock native americans nor they are causing direct harm by using the name.

This cultural appropriation stuff is going too far, now they are even discussing changin name of Geisha chocolate bars in my country that had been around since 60s and just cause some white person had issue with the name. No japanese has had issues with it. It's getting so annoying with these folks.

this shit is happening every few months for a while now. it's just awful to see how hateful people are and seriously want to cancel the girls, despite never being racist
