U.S. state anthems are just so so silly (1 Viewer)

Michigans state anthem is a song called “My Michigan”. It was adopted as the state anthem in 1937. However, almost everyone thinks that a different song, called “Michigan, My Michigan”, is the actual anthem. At first glance, it seems that the confusion is just the similar titles. But the part that actually makes it more confusing is that the actual state anthem is nowhere to be found. Turns out Michigan never actually owned the copyright to their own anthem. And still don’t. So you can’t really find it anywhere. Good news is that in 3 years the copyright expires and they can use it. So that’s a thing

the confusion is hilarious

it has to be better than the aussie anthem
it is so cringe and most people just recite the first verse

How did this happen? Theoretical question.

P.S. I’m waiting for your ‘saddest national anthems‘ thread, so we can talk about why mine is about “the sadness, despair, lost wars, corpses, and destroyed cities suffered by the Hungarian people because of their sinfulness”
