General Information
Astrid Smeplass (born 29 October 1996) is a Norwegian singer, songwriter and model. In 2013, she had her breakthrough when she placed fifth in the Norwegian version of Pop Idol called Idol - Jakten på en superstjerne.
The journey for Astrid S toward superstardom is one of escape and destiny. She was born in the tiny Norwegian hamlet of Berkåk. ‘In the heart of Norway,’ she says, ‘quite literally.’ Music was her first love, soccer her second. She dropped out of a football school to enter Norwegian Idol at 16 and promptly earned her fist indigenous top 10 hit, Shattered. She signed to Sony ATV Music Publ. as a songwriter that year. Since, Astrid has been honing her brilliant ear for a pop chorus and identifiable, genre-bending lyrics. Astrid S recalls exactly what pop music made her feel like as a young girl in a small town.

Starting her journey with "Shattered", a song released while she was on the Norwegian Version of "American Idol", which hit a Gold Certification and #4 placement on the Norwegian Charts.
Being signed with a new label, late 2014, she released her official debut song called "2AM", which received a 3x Platinum Certification in Norway as well, being #13 on the charts.
"The song deals with a the struggle following a breakup up and yearning for a love lost."
After creating much hype around her in Norway, not long into 2015 she and Shawn Mendes had a collab with the single "Air", which respectively got a Platinum Certification again.
As well as a special version of Avicii's hit song "Waiting For Love"
Continuing her solo career, towards the end of 2015 she released her 2nd single "Hyde"
“Hyde is a song I wrote after reading the story about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde…It’s about how you can just become another person by being drugged, drunk—or even in love. And not being aware of it."
as well as teasing a 2nd single called "Paper Thin" (Lyric Video)
Once into 2016 she had another 2 collabs in the beginning with CLMD called "Dust" and Matoma called "Running Out", with both hitting a Platinum Certification in Norway.
Mid-2016 she released her lead single for an upcoming, self-called album "Astrid S", which hit #6 on the Norway Charts and received multiple Gold & Platinum Certifications.
“Hurts So Good” describes a broken relationship between two lovers who keep running back to each other, knowing that they’ll get hurt again."
Jump - "I wondered what it would feel like if I jumped off this cliff. Would people care? It gave me a rush of adrenaline. I definitely wasn’t going to do it, of course not. It’s just the weird and sudden rush you get from these thoughts. This is where I got the inspiration from to write this song."
Atic - "It is about a mental and emotional escape for someone."
I Don't Wanna Know - "It is about a past relationship, and both Astrid S and the boy sometimes have the urge to reach out to each other again, but they don’t. They know it’s not going to work out and they don’t want to know how their lives are now without the other."
"Hurts So Good" almost had 50 million spotify plays nearing the end of August 2016 (3 months after release), gaining big attention from international fans.
IMO probably still her best album up to date. Definitely take a listen to it!!

Before that release she dropped a new single "Breathe", which hit #3 on the Norwegian Charts.

releasing 2 other MV's for "Bloodstream" and "Such a Boy", which hit #2 on the NC.
“Such A Boy describes the feeling of uncertainty within a relationship with a person who is not sure of what they want."
All 3 of these were included in the EP released June 2017 called "Party's Over".

And ending 2017 with the song "Think Before I Talk", which meaning is pretty obvious with the title, which was her most successful song in Norway, finally hitting that #1 spot and getting 2 Platinum Certifications.
