Highly doubtful. This app has been in development for a while and I really doubt they sat any of these groups down and said, "So this is what we're going to do..." it is more likely their companies signed contracts with NCSoft (Starship already had one, for instance, since Monsta X was involved with TwoTuckGom) and the groups are just expected to go along with it.

I went down the rabbithole earlier n learnt theres an Aimi Eguchi a virtual idol who was supposed to join AKB48 b4 fans sussed out she wasnt real n they cancelled their plans or they just tested the idea, so i think this is just more of the same n SM isnt even the champion of bad ai avatar virtual idols ideas, just the earliest in kore tat i know of. Hoping the new song forever by aespa has no ai/ae/avatar involved-fingers crossed.
