We need to talk: Virtual idols (1 Viewer)

I feel like this forum doesn't talk about virtual idols and I think we should.
What are your opinions on virtual idols?
Have your opinions changed?

Tbh, I never really cared about virtual idols.
Of course, I'd rather have a human being than a perfect manufactured thing.

The only group that has (a) virtual idol(s) that I listened to were SUPERKIND (because I thought the real members were talented) and MAVE: (they have bops but their MVs creep me out).
I feel like the only exception is K/DA, BUT I feel like it's different because the voices behind K/DA were already known people.

I will say that my opinions have kind of changed.
I recently came across the songs of Netflix's Kpop Demon Hunters (I still have to watch), and I will say that I hope that Sony debuts the Saja Boys and HUNTR/X as virtual idols.
I feel like Sony somehow did the virtual idol thing right (and they gave them some bangers of songs).​

personally i'll always prefer human musicians instead of virtual ones even though i loved the demon hunters movie, but my views have also changed a bit since generative AI started showing up everywhere.

i still don't care about virtual idols and probably won't ever get interested in them, but if they have a human team behind them then i don't mind their existence and can see why someone would enjoy such things. but if the idols are AI generated then fuck that shit and one must really lack proper taste to get into that in a world with so much real entertainment everywhere...

I have no problem with virtual idols with real humans behind them like PLAVE or K/DA or Heartsteel. I can see their appeal from having fun characters that are bigger than life or connecting to a game you love or having deep lore that can be bigger than just one person or, hell, just being a front so the idols themselves aren't selling who they are as people as part of the package that comes with fame.

Absolutely not willing to support, spend time or money on, any idols made with AI.

I'm interested in the technology and evolution of AI. I used the AI music platform Udio in the past and I had some fun. More important: Udio was the reason why I started making my own music (without any AI influences). There is some user creativity involved but whatever an AI creates for you, it's not your own work. It's more like a puzzle game where someone cut the pieces for you and you need to find the fitting parts.

I have the same opinion about virtual idols: I'm getting very sceptic when virtual idols replace human idols completely. Deepfake technology will be able to create photorealistic AI idols in the near future. AI music technology will create very authentic K-Pop songs. But if we come to the point where it doesn't matter anymore if AI or real artists bring us music, we sacrifice a large part of our culture on the altar of technology and profit. I'm fine with AI as a tool but it should never ever get a replacement for human creativity and the 'soul' in music, like Steven mentioned.

I am a big fan of K/DA and was actively listening to MAVE: for a period of time. Like with everyone saying, as long as there are real genuine people behind these virtual idols that is completely fine with me. AI is not acceptable to me at all

the reason I am a fan of an idol or group is usually because of that person's personality and the group cohesion and I don't think I'll find that in virtual idols
