I used to cashier and 2 things come to mind. One is when someone came in and bought 20 or so bags of shredded cheese. They didn’t buy anything else, just the cheese.
Another is a lady who took “how are you today” too literally. Most people say “good how are you” but she started telling me about her back pains and about her friend who has cancer and I just did not know how to respond to that
