if the group/artists never sings in korean to me they are not kpop
For example i never know where to category XG bc they are not singing neither in korean neither in japanese tho they are created by a japanese company. in my top songs of this year i put them in jpop category but only bc of the company even tho i dont think they are either jpop or kpop.
i have the same problem for artists like DPR IAN but i usually put them on kpop in my top songs of the year
i only do this bc i usually don't have enough songs to fill a list of XX top eng songs of the year since i barely listen US/western music

Anyway, i hate that statement about the “take the ‘K’ off ‘K-pop.’” that the Hybe ceo did.
i think the worse thing that happened in kpop it was the globalization. companies are so focused getting big in US that are getting rid of what made people fell in love by kpop in the 1st place.
The increase of english on songs (a lot of times the songs have more eng on it that korean or then it is completely in eng) and the oversexualization of the idols is killing the genre as a whole.
i am not gonna say that kpop was never influenced by US pop bc that would be a lie. i think kpop (at least the one i discovered back in 2010) was a good mix between jpop and 90s western pop. i fell in love by the "weirdish bubblegum cutesy" pop and now i feel that i am getting this more from jpop than kpop.
