I've been using forums since I was fourteen, and I can offer one piece of advice. Think. It's literally so simple

Think before you make threads, think before posting, think before sending dms, think before everything, at least until you've been there long enough. Ask yourself if you're going to cringe later rereading what you wrote. Ask yourself if that one thread you want to make is either useless or can actually generate discussion. So many dumb threads, petty fights, and useless posts can all be prevented if you stop for one second and ask if it's really worth embarrassing yourself over.

But don't overthink it or else you won't have any fun

-to be yourself, there will always be people who like you for who you are
-own up to any mistakes you make if you do
-stay safe

just have fun, it's a forum not some debate club - it's not worth to write thinkpieces on why you don't like group Y as much as everyone else in the world does. ofc don't overshare personal stuff too but that's for all social media not just forums.

Be careful of who you let influence you as getting a bad reputation because of trusting the wrong people is something I've seen before and of course with that stay wary of people who may be trying to use you including those who might say they care.

If someone says something about another user it's best not to believe it - hearsay I think it is called, just calls for bad blood, try to get in touch with people yourself and see how they are instead of listening to anyone else
