What countries that you know of have mandatory military service? (1 Viewer)

Something that I thought about after my last thread. Ofc we all know South Korea, but do any others come to mind?

The only one to can think of is Israel. Almost all Jews (male and female) must serve for I think 2-3.5 years or so depending on position and gender? Some may serve more. My mom has relatives in Israel and 1 know one has served already and one is serving right now (both female). I can’t immediately recall any other countries

Austria is surprising to me. I usually associate mandatory military service with countries often at war or near aggressive countries.

belgium had mandatory conscription until the '90s. the legal framework for it still exists so it's halted in favor of voluntary conscription, but not entirely abandoned. basically it could be reintroduced by the government if necessary
