What’s the difference between a slightly sour and alcoholic carbonated fermented drink often made with rye bread vs a sweet nonalcoholic beverage made of stewed fruits and berries? The only 2 similarities I see are they they’re drinks and that they’re popular in the same areas.

I don’t drink alcohol either. The amount of alcohol in kvass is so tiny. I think it has more to do with where you live than anything else.
